What is ELT?
Durham Continuing Education offers a sixteen week program that assists internationally trained professionals in re-connecting with their professions through in-class language training and internship/mentorship opportunities. Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, The Enhanced Language Training Program (ELT) is open to candidates who are 18 years or older, are permanent residents or convention refugees, and have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of level 6 or above in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
The ELT program offers classes from 8:30am to 11:00am and 11:30am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday. In the morning classes candidates can choose to study a combined sector program that focuses on networking, business ethics and conflict resolution or a office administration/finance program that focuses on financial and administrative terminology, essential writing skill and presentation skills. In the afternoon classes, students will study advanced grammatical structures, idioms, expressions and pronunciation.
The internship/mentorship portion of the program enables candidates to reconnect to their professions by gaining valuable Canadian work experience. The internship/mentorship program is eight weeks in duration.
There is no tuition for the program and child-care and transportation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
