FAQ
Do I qualify for LINC?
- Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees and some case types qualify for LINC classes. Please call our centre for more information.
What do I need to bring to the assessment?
- All clients must bring an original Permanent Residence card or Permanent Residence landing paper and passport with photo or the assessment can not take place.
I am 17, can I have an assessment?
- Assessments are for adults, 18 years of age and above.
Can I bring my child to the assessment?
- Currently, our assessment office and school sites do not have the capacity for babies or children to be present while a parent is being assessed. We try to make day, afternoon, evening or Saturday assessment times available for those with children so that the child can be left at home with responsible adult supervision.
How long is the assessment?
- Depending on the assessment type used, it may take from 2 to 4 hours to complete. If a client is a lower level, the assessment may be shorter.
What is the difference between LINC and ESL?
- LINC and ESL classes are similar in the Durham Region and are both taught by professionally trained and qualified instructors. LINC classes are funded by the Canadian Federal government and ESL classes are funded by the Province of Ontario.
Can I get transportation assistance?
- The LINC Assessment office does not distribute bus tickets or passes. Each school has a qualification process and the assistance is given to those students with the most financial needs. After an assessment, a client is given the school contact information and further questions can be directed to the school.
Which classes may I attend?
- After an assessment, the assessor will give the client the best options for his/her educational pathway and the client then chooses which class(es) he/she would like to attend.
